5 Tips for Traveling Solo

JamaicaTravel

I’ve been traveling solo for the past few years, so I’ve learned a few things about how to save money, and stay safe while overseas. Here are my top 5 tips for traveling solo.

Traveling alone can be daunting and intimidating, but if you prepare properly and use common sense then you can have a great trip, in a new country and even make new friends.

My first solo trip was to Brazil. Everyone thought I was crazy and the scare-tactic stories were a bit much. But I understand where they were coming from. I’m a petite woman and being in a foreign country where English is not the native language could post a challenge. But I didn’t let that deter me and I’m happy that I took the plunge and made the trip.

I think going to a country where the people looked like me helped me to blend in with the locals. Most people assumed that I was Carioca (A Brazilian born in Rio) and would start talking to me in Portuguese. I learned a few Portuguese phrases and got compliments on my accent. Once I exhausted my list of phrases then I would confess that I didn’t know anymore haha. Everyone appreciated that I made the effort and would then speak in English (if they knew English).

What tips would you add to the list? Leave a comment below.

Great tips! I love to travel alone, done it millions of times but i dont like to stay alone so i always try to stay with people. Fortunatey i have friends all over the World where i am always invited.

I agree with everything you Said apart for Travelling to a country with your first language. That Would limit you so much. My mother tougne is only spoken in two countries in the World and i have actually learned English and two other languages by Travelling.

    Very encouraging video!

    • Thanks for sharing! I definitely understand that limitation for you since your language is only spoken in 2 countries.

    • Aww well it’s good that you tried so you know for sure its not for you. I haven’t been there yet but it’s on my list!
